Introduction to Architectural Journalism

What is Journalism ?

Journalism is described as making of articles and reports on recent events. It is the method of gathering information. Journalistic media include internet, newspaper, radio, TV etc. The development of internet and smartphone field completely changed the staze of media in recent years. With time people like to read article and news on internet through e- readers and personal devices. Role of media jounralists vay in different countries. In few nations media is controlled by the government and in others it is independent of the government.

Types of Journalism :-

As journalism is known as "fourth pillar" of a democratic country So, there are several forms of journalism. Even a single form contains many types of journalism. Such as newspaper has many sections like magazine, website etc that captures different audience.

Some other forms include Data journalism, Brodcast journalism, Photo journalism, Investigation journalism, Drone journalism etc. All these forms of journalism having different work in it.

Architectural Journalism :-

It is a way or niche of writing about design and architecture. Architectual journalists /writers who write articles for architectural events, magazines, websites etc. People interested in architectural writing pursue architecture journalism. Basic reading on the subject helps in understanding design concepts help one's to make career in the field. It help architects to build new content for different architectural platforms. 

In short terms documenting anything related to architecture can be termed as architecture journalism. And anyone with a passion in architecture has the potential of contributing in architecture journalism.

We read different articles in magazines about design, space planning, architects, buildings etc. are considered in this field. Thinking and writing about the architectural concept is more important than designing or drafting. An architectural journalist has advanced architectural skills but also has the ability to interpret his design methodology. An architect must consider this field more than writing article. If it is studied to architecture student during course it will help them in design viva. Among 450+ architecture colleges in India only a few of them have architectural journalism.

An architectural journalist, who take you into a journey of fantasy of experiencing the architecture and design by doing small efforts.
